Based on a true story Color Blind tracks the lives of John Webber, a white man, and Sylvia Hector, brought to America as an infant from Africa. Warner Hector purchases Sylvia and her nursemaid, Kokoe. Sylvia spends the first 17 years of her life with the Hectors. She works in Hector’s Beer Garten, until the serendipitous arrival of John Webber, who purchases Sylvia and Kokoe. John professes his love for Sylvia, but unable to withstand the bigotry and prejudice of early 19th-century Vermont, the couple leave for Tejas where John and Sylvia’s many adventures move at an accelerated pace. Crop killing drought, deadly floods, blood thirsty savages, forays into Mexico, The War of 1812, War of Texas Independence/Mexican American War/Civil War), along with 13 children and adopted Native Americans, complicate John and Sylvia’s tenuous foothold on the land they love.
